Just a reminder with Junior and Senior winter nets

Just a reminder with Junior and Senior winter nets approaching you'll understand the need for a First Aid trainer to be on site (although the Coach is leading the session it doesn't mean they are a qualified 1st Aider........ they are different skills/qualifications).

So the best way to guarantee the session is run safely, with someone there who can help when required) is by you being trained.

We have two courses coming up on Wednesday 13th November at The Spicers Sports Ground, Cambridge Road, Sawston.

The first course starts at 1.45pm, the other (for those that work or can't make the daytime course) starts at 6.15pm.

The course is led by the brilliant Emma Walker and will take about 3 hours to complete.

The cost of the course is £40 and is designed to break even and represents great value, when compared to what other sports charge for exactly the same training.

Ahead of the 2025 season, the ECB will be updating how memberships are purchased and managed for members across the network.

From 28th October 2024, the ECB is changing its payment processor for Direct Debit payments. Stripe Payments UK Ltd will now be responsible for all Direct Debit collections from this date. Collections will no longer be made by NatWest.

The good news is that you do not need to take any action to continue receiving the benefits of Direct Debit.

Please be assured the only change you will notice is that with effect from 28th October, Stripe Payments UK Ltd will collect your Direct Debits on behalf of England and Wales Cricket Board Limited instead of NatWest and therefore ECB LTD will now appear on your Bank/Building Society statement.

There is no need for you to complete a new Direct Debit Instruction, as details of the change will have been supplied to your bank, which may also independently notify you.

In addition, you may also see a comment on your bank statement advising you of the final payment under the old name/details and the first payment under the new name/details.

In future, if there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, England and Wales Cricket Board Limited will notify you at least two working days in advance of your account being debited, which may be different to the notice period you have seen in the past.

You will continue to enjoy the full benefits of the Direct Debit Guarantee, as detailed below.

The date of our Grounds Association Get together h

The date of our Grounds Association Get together has had to change.

We will now be meeting on Sunday, 17th November at Burwell&Exning Cricket Club's Ground in Burwell, starting at 10am.

As always the session will be a combination of practical work and sharing of knowledge and experience from different Club grounds keepers.

Over the last year the group has grown from 15 willing soles to over 30 Grounds keepers from across the County..... and with Cambridgeshire having more than 80 Clubs we'd love to see a few more.

In addition to the Get Together sessions, the existing members stay in contact via a Watts App group, which shares news items, equipment maintenance advice and a quick warning system if (as happens from time to time) clubs in the area get broken in to.

Also Clubs can make savings, by joining together to bulk purchase seed, loam and fertiliser. Of the Clubs that took part this year each club made a saving compared to their purchases in 2023.

Lastly, it is a chance to get our Grounds Keepers together and say thank you. Our Grounds Keepers are a hardy bunch and after the wet winter and spring faced an uphill battle each week to get a brilliant pitch ready for the weekend, they had the job of End of Season renovations, allowing their squares to be in tip-top shape while they hibernate for winter. This work means prep for the 2025 season has already started.

The morning isn't just reserved for the primary Ground keeper, but the team at each club so if you are involved on the ground in any way come and join us!

Cambs u17 ⏩ England Call ups!

Congratulations to 2 former Cambridgeshire young cricketers @zum.__ and @michael_pep for their recent call ups for @englandcricket Lions & ODI Teams.

After an impressive debut for the Lions against Sri Lanka this summer Zum will head off to tour South Africa this winter!

Michael will head off to the Caribbean to replace the injured @josbuttler in their upcoming ODI series against the West Indies

Congratulations to both of you and good luck for your upcoming tours!

Over the last few weeks volunteers at Grounds all over the County have been busy with End of Season renovations, allowing their squares to hibernate for the winter.

Firstly thank you to all of the Volunteer Ground teams at all of our clubs.

Now the squares are put to bed we are having a Cambridgeshire Grounds Association Get Together this Saturday (26th October) starting at 10am at Burwell.

This practical session is being led by County Pitch Advisor Wayne Hardy.

All clubs have been invited, but it is not just Lead Grounds people who can attend. So if you help your Grounds Team and want to learn more, receive information that will benefit you and your grounds team, network with like minded people from other clubs, we would love to see you!

Only a few days left in which you can register for our upcoming Core Coach Development Course.

This course, which delivers a recognised vocational qualification starts on Sunday 27th October at Comberton Village College.

The course is run by an excellent band of tutors who will help you become confident and skilled in delivering fun, stimulating and safe player-centred coaching within a Club or School environment via both online and face-to-face modules.

The details are:

Dates – Sunday 27th Oct 24, 3rd Nov, 17th Nov and 24th Nov

Times – Each day runs from 9.30am to 4pm

Are you a Club Volunteer who wants to develop further their Coaching skills and experience or are you an experienced player who has started to notice players are asking you for advice and they are benefitting in both confidence and in skill level from your advice and you'd like to do more.

Well on Sunday, 27th October our next ECB Core Coach Development course starts at 9.30am at Comberton Village College.

Every club in Cambridgeshire needs more coaches to help deliver a wide range of coaching to their young people learning the game. There is also an ECB statistic that says for every 1 new coach 10 new players are created.

So by qualifying as an ECB Core Coach you will help bring the game to the next generation of players.

The course is a mix of on-line modules which you can take at home and face-to-face modules aimed at helping you build your confidence in delivering player-centred coaching sessions.

Last night we held our Women’s and Girls’ End of Season Meeting where we had the pleasure of discussing the 2024 season with club representatives.

We also got a chance to present pennant’s to the league winners for the season.

A huge well done to all of the volunteers for their continued effort in making these leagues run smoothly at each club across the County.

Here in Cambridgeshire we have a small number of places left on our ECB Core Coach Development course due to start on Sunday 27th October.

An ECB Core Coach will be qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and without supervision. This programme has been designed to develop a learner’s knowledge, skills and confidence to lead player-centred coaching sessions.

Anyone aged 17 and over wishing to become qualified to coach cricket, inspire and develop players and make a difference to the game.

Experience of playing or coaching cricket is desirable when applying for this programme.

The course consists of both online and face-to-face learning. The online work involves going through 6 bitesize e-learning modules, each of which last no more than 15-20 minutes.

In regard to the Face-to-Face learning you will go through 8 modules, each lasts 3 hours and includes 2 observed
coaching opportunities.

So what are the course details?
Dates – Day 1 – 27th Oct 24 (2 modules), Day 2 – 3rd Nov (2 Modules), Day 3 – 17th Nov (2 Modules), Day 4 – 24th Nov (2 modules)
Times – Each day runs from 9.30am to 4pm (with 30 mins lunch from 12.30 until 1pm)

Venue – Comberton Village College, West Street, Comberton, CB23 7DU

This of course covers the practical training and to become a fully certified Core Coach you will also need a valid ECB DBS certificate and have current Safeguarding in Specialist Roles training (both of which can be obtained during the course).

Next Sunday we are running a brilliant ECB Support

Next Sunday we are running a brilliant ECB Support Coach Course on the lovely grounds of Chippenham Cricket Club (a beautiful ground worth visiting any time of year!).

The Support Coach course is designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to support qualified coaches.

While an ECB Support Coach is not qualified to lead sessions independently, they are an important part of any club looking to develop and further expand the number of players they have, whether that be in Men's, Women's, Boys or Girl cricket..... and we know many clubs in Cambridgeshire have this objective.

The course combines both online work (2 modules each lasting 10-15 minutes) and 1 x 3 hour face-to-face module which looks at how you communicate with those attending a training session, support batting, bowling and fielding drills and most importantly keep everyone safe and ensure everyone has fun!

You must be 16 and prior to certification you must have completed the Safeguarding in Specialist Roles training and have a valid ECB DBS.
Support Coaches really do make a difference to the game and this course is a great place to start your coaching journey!

Here at Cambridgeshire Cricket we are running two First Aid course on Wednesday, 13th November at the Spicers Sports Ground Pavilion, Cambridge Road, Sawston from one starting at 1.45pm, the other starting at 6.15pm.

At each game or training session we never know what might happen and in each season there is invariably something happen at each club when First Aid is needed to be provided.

We are aware from some clubs, there was concern last season where they felt exposed. The closed season is an excellent time to take stock and get members trained to cover any shortfall and make sure your club has sufficient members trained.

Our training is delivered by the brilliant Emma Walker, who will provide all participants with the confidence and knowledge to step forwards and make a difference when someone else really needs them.

Club Safeguarding Officers (CSO) are vital members

Club Safeguarding Officers (CSO) are vital members of the club and key to making an environment safe, welcoming and friendly for everyone to enjoy the game of cricket.

As well as holding a valid DBS certificate, CSO need to complete three sets of training:
- Online ‘Safeguarding for Specialist Roles’
- A ‘top up’ online module – ‘Safeguarding for Committee Members and Club Safeguarding Officers’
- Face to face ‘Safe Hands' workshop which is run by the local County Cricket Board

Below are dates of training courses that cover Point 3 and are aimed to provide you with the knowledge that will make your life as a CSO easier, the courses are great for getting to know other Club CSOs, sharing experience and proves you are supported by Cambridgeshire Cricket and by the ECB as well.

These courses should be updated every 3 years and in Cambridgeshire we are aware that many CSO training will expire and needs to be refreshed and we are aware that Club Safeguarding Officers change.

The date is 25th February 2025 starting at 6.15pm

Please remember that as part of your Club Affiliation Process each club agrees to comply with the ECB Safe Hands Policy and therefore each club should have a fully qualified CSO by the start of the 2025 season.

It is also good practice for Clubs to have a full trained deputy CSO.
