Horsford Cricket Club will become only the third cricket club in East Anglia to have SIS Grass Hybrid Wickets installed at their Manor Park ground on Friday 23rd February. With the other two cricket clubs in East Anglia that have hybrid wickets located in Essex, Horsford will be the first Norfolk cricket club to have the hybrid grass technology when they have two wickets installed.

Across the world, SIS have installed Hybrid Cricket Pitches at 36 County / International venues, at 54 cricket clubs and in 23 schools. (Full details available at the bottom of the page)

To help showcase the installation at Manor Park and allow cricket clubs from across the region to find out more about the technology and observe it being installed, SIS Pitches are working with Horsford and the our friends at the Norfolk Cricket Board to run a FREE product demonstration seminar on the morning of the day open to all clubs and volunteers. Please do share this email with your club contacts and anyone else you feel may be interested in attending this seminar.

We continue to seek nominations for the "Cricket C

We continue to seek nominations for the "Cricket Collective" Grassroots Awards and the deadline of Sunday 18th August is looming large.
We have received 49 nominations so far, but we need more, we have over 80 clubs and I still bet there are 2 people in each club who are absolute Superstars who we need to know about.
Lets have a look at at a Couple of the Winners from last Year.
Meet Oran, Oran was 16 when he won the Rising Star Award Category, during the season he was taking his GCSE's, but still found time to assist with coaching in his club, complete the Young Leaders in Cricket programme which gave him new skills and found time to fundraise for the MCC Foundation Hub in Cambridge. Since winning the award Oran has continued his good work.
Meet Phil Kingsmill, Phil leads the team that won the Volunteer Grounds Team Award. Lets be clear the award was not for the best ground, but the team who moved mountains to ensure those who played at the ground had a better all-round experience in 2023 than they did in 2022, by making lots of improvements (some large and some small). Phil attended all of the Cambs Grounds Keepers meetings, always looking to listen and learn his craft. Following the award the teams aim for 2024 was to give teams playing a better experience than in 2023 and feedback received tells us they are achieving just that!
A reminder the deadline for entries is Sunday 18th Aug, we also attach details of the Categories and the criteria against each category and the QR code, which will take you to the nomination form and all winners will be invited to join us at the Presentation Day on 11th September at Chelmsford where we celebrate with our partners from Essex County Cricket Club while watching Essex in the County Championship.

Following on from our recent drive to develop umpi

Following on from our recent drive to develop umpiring skills across the County a good news story.
Meet Louise Vickers.

Louise is Secretary at Histon Cricket Club and is a cricket mum, with husband Dan a coach also at Histon and children who all play.

In April Louise attended the ECB Introduction to Umpiring Course held at Sawston & Babraham CC's Spicers Pavilion.

After that Louise was unsure where she should start her umpiring. So with small steps Louise started umpiring junior games at Histon and then Louise was introduced to experienced umpire Lizzy Conder, is is also a Board Member of Cambridgeshire Cricket.

Last Sunday, Louise stood in a Cambridgeshire Under 13 Girls game with Lizzy and did a great job.

Asked about her experience Louise remarked "It was incredible to be able to learn whilst the game was happening, to get feedback that I could put into action straight away, and then further feedback at the end to take away and develop my own strategies for. Lizzy was so helpful with her calm and measured, yet firm and decisive approach. I will treasure that experience and take it out in the field with me every time I umpire."

We think you did a great job Louise, thank you and we look forwards to seeing where umpiring takes you next!

Although we have had no Boys u10 squad this season

Although we have had no Boys u10 squad this season, in does not mean we have not invested in the age group running skills development sessions during Winter and spring, culminating in the group getting together for 2 x Group based Hundred Format games.

Both games were competitive, with some developing talent on show.

Clubs tell us they need more Coaches in their club

Clubs tell us they need more Coaches in their clubs to help bring forward the next generation of players and in the last year (From April 8th 2023 to April 7th 2024) we have helped over 100 people from different clubs, school and backgrounds to qualify as a coach.

Each year we organise ECB Coach Education courses to enable candidates to become a fully qualified cricket coach. These popular courses are all delivered by our highly experienced tutor team.

Below we announce the dates of our Autumn and Winter programme of the ECB Foundation Coach courses we will be running.

The Foundation Coach Course is an excellent course for those new to coaching, it teaches you the four key pillars that are so important in the development of young cricketers.

Who in your club has impressed you in the last few

Who in your club has impressed you in the last few weeks, who has been leading the way delivering brilliant coaching to your clubs young people, who has been making your ground look amazing and tending to the hanging baskets outside the pavilion and keeping the outskirts of the ground neat and tidy.

We need to know about them!

Who has been telling your local community about your brilliant club and encouraging Women and Girls to play, who has been going into schools to attract young members into your club by delivering Chance to Shine or Dynamos sessions.

We need to know about them!

Who has been there for as long as you can remember, just there at your club, always doing the right thing at just the right time like they did last year and the year before or, in fact, for as long as you can remember.

We need to know about them.

Why because it is the time of the year for you to nominate these Very Important People in the ECB "Cricket Collective" Grassroots Awards.

Volunteers in your clubs are the lifeblood of our sport and it is so important that we recognise them and where we can, give them a little treat.

In the pictures below we list the categories and the criteria by which you should nominate, along with a QR code which you can scan and head straight to the nomination form.

It's quick, it's simple and it shows you appreciate those members who really do make the earth move so we can all enjoy the game we love.

We already have 30+ nominations but we have room for a whole lot more.

The deadline is Sunday 18th August and each category winner will be invited as a VIP to our Presentation Day on 11th September where we partner with our colleagues at Essex County Cricket Club in watching 1st Class cricket in Chelmsford while having some great food and a little drink.

This is your very, very, very last call for you to be able to sign up to the Umpiring Skills Development Workshop taking place tomorrow night (1st Aug) taking place at The Paradise Sports Centre, where City of Ely CC have their home.

Although the session is FREE it does not mean by any means the quality of the tutors delivering the sessions is anything but high.

Peter Hinstridge is Chair of Cambs and Hunts Association of Cricket Officials and is a widely experienced umpire and tutor and Ben Whyall is an ECB Umpiring tutor, with wide umpiring experience in the Read Brothers East Anglian Premier League and currently is involved in the latter stages of the ECB Club Cup Competitions.

Both Ben and Peter love to share their knowledge and wisdom and the workshop will help anyone attending increase their knowledge of the role of the umpire, the laws of the game and how to apply them and increase your game management communication skills.

At the last course each of the participants had at least one "Eureka!" moment.

This workshop is ideal for those who umpire a few overs in either the Men's or Women's game, umpire in junior games or have left the game and want to start giving back.

After last nights sensational first Umpiring Skill

After last nights sensational first Umpiring Skills Workshop, as advertised, we are running another session on Thursday, 1st August starting at 6.30pm hosted by City of Ely CC at The Paradise Centre in Ely.

One thing highlighted last night, particularly after the open letter to ALL in the Cambridgeshire Cricketing Community from Russell Doel, is the important relationship and the communication between the umpires and the captains are in managing the game.

The importance of this relationship is sometimes not known or ignored, so we encourage all clubs, who play in League games (senior or junior) where there are no appointed umpires to get someone on this workshop.

This course will again be led by both ECB Tutor Ben Whyall and Chair of Cambs and Hunts Association of Cricket Officials Peter Hinstridge, who are knowledgeable, experienced and bring some fun to the workshop.

By attending you will definitely learn something new, in a relaxed environment.

Last night we held a brilliant Umpiring Skills Workshop at the pavilion of @cottenhamcricketclub

ECB Umpiring Tutor Ben Whyall and Cambs and Hunts Association of Cricket Officials Chair Peter Hinstridge used their years of experience to lead 8 willing learners through the basics.

All 8 had Eureka moments through the evening, which saw myths busted and confidence given to allow those present to umpire without fear or favour.

If you have not attended one of these workshops and you umpire 10 overs or so at your club while you play or you umpire Junior or Women’s League games you really should attend one.

The next is at Ely on 1st August, starting at 6.30pm. What this space to book your place.

Nominations for "The Cricket Collective" Grassroot

Nominations for "The Cricket Collective" Grassroots Awards for 2024 are open and so far we have received 15 nominations.

A special thank you to the members of @northstowecricketclub who have entered into the spirit of the awards by nominating people they think are doing a really special job to help promote and run their club.
If the other 80 or so clubs in Cambridgeshire enter into the same spirit it will be a record year for nominations.

First Nigel Reader of @roystoncc in the Unsung Hero Award after project managing the development of their Club pavilion and getting heavily involved in all of the volunteer aspects of bringing the plans to a real structure which is valued by its members.

Also shown are the Grounds Team from @chippenhamcricketcambs who were runners up in the Volunteer Grounds Management Team, the club were placed in an unfortunate situation when their long standing groundsman passed away at the end of the 2022 season. The team picked up the reins and worked brilliantly as a team to keep their ground in beautiful condition.

Now is the time to nominate your local heroes! Anyone can nominate, you do not have to wait for your Club Committee to do it. As a Club player, member or parent you see what goes on in your club and who really does do the work to make your club what it is.

Next week we are running our first Cambridgeshire

Next week we are running our first Cambridgeshire Cricket and Cambridgeshire and Hunts Association of Cricket Officials (CHACO) mid-season Umpiring Skills Workshop at Cottenham Village Hall.

Running this mid-season will allow all parents helping out their clubs in the CYCA or County Age Group by standing for a few overs but not really knowing the key laws, this will also benefit all CCA Clubs who have team members standing for 10 overs and give them confidence to umpire without fear or favour and will definitely benefit every women playing in the either the Cambridgeshire Hard or Soft Ball Leagues to learn a bit more about the rules and give confidence to stand in a game to help your club.

This workshop, presented by Ben Whyall, will last a maximum of two and a half hours and will be full of practical hints and tips.
